Prince George Barracuda Swim Club
[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Swim Canada email and practice cancellations
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:
News Title: Swim Canada email and practice cancellations
News Date: 10/09/2019

Hi everyone,

Hope you're settling into the schedule now that we have moved to the Aquatic Centre for the remainder of the season.

I have a number of items to pass onto you today.

1. Everyone (with the exception of the Masters program) will have received an email from Swim Canada today. There is a link in the email for you to click on which will take you to the Swim Canada website. It will ask you to double check to make sure your information is correct. If any information needs to be changed, do so. Then click the confirm button. This has to be done so everyone is insured while they are at practice. This has to be done immediately!

If you did not receive this email, check your spam folder.

Practice Cancellations

1. Thanksgiving Monday October 14 practices for all groups are cancelled.

2. The club is travelling to Prince Rupert October 18-20. Therefore practices for all groups, except the Swim School, D3, D2C and Masters programs will be cancelled, Friday October 18 and Saturday October 19. As well as Monday morning October 21.

Those in the Elite and Youth groups who are not travelling to Prince Rupert will be given practices by Jason and Jerzy.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Cheers,

Jason

[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Aquatic Centre Swipe Cards New and Returning Swimmers

Prince George Barracuda Swim Club
[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Aquatic Centre Swipe Cards New and Returning Swimmers
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:
News Title: Aquatic Centre Swipe Cards New and Returning Swimmers
News Date: 10/08/2019

PGBSC Families:

The City of PG has a swipe card system in place to track the number of participants using their aquatic facilities. For safety reasons the pool staff needs to know the number of people in the pool at any given time, and have the contact information for families in the case of an emergency. This is mandatory, and your swimmer will need to be registered with the pool in order to receive their swipe card. One the cards have been issued each swimmer will be asked to swipe in and out each time they enter the pool. For privacy reasons the PGBSC is unable to give out personal information, therefore it is the responsibility of each family to register their swimmer directly with the pool front desk staff and pick up their swipe cards.

Returning swimmers: Stop by the front desk at the Aquatic Centre to re-activate your swipe card.

New swimmers: Register at the front desk of the Aquatic Centre to receive your card.

Masters swimmers will also need to follow these protocols.

If you have any questions please direct them to the Aquatic Centre front desk staff.

Thank you for your cooperation.

[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Importance of Attending Swim Meets

Prince George Barracuda Swim Club
[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Importance of Attending Swim Meets
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:
News Title: Importance of Attending Swim Meets
News Date: 09/22/2019

Hello everyone.

A new season begins. New goals to achieve. Friendships to grow.

Glad to see everyone again after summer holidays. The coaching staff is looking forward to helping your kids achieve their goals in the water.  Whether it's improving their skillset or qualifying for a specific meet.

As I have said in the past, we are a competitive swim club. Teaching kids to swim proficiently. Teaching kids to race. Teaching kids to race fast. However. There are a number of life skills that we teach as well. How to set and achieve short and long term goals.  Which becomes a motivational tool throughout the season, particularly in April, May and June.  The development of sportsmanship at practice and swim meets teaches the value of friendships within their group and throughout the club.

It is during the swim meets that we attend during the season that truly tests the kids. The coaching staff can see firsthand how they deal with the following.

Are they warming up properly?

Are they dressed warm enough on deck?

Are they hydrating enough?

How are they dealing with sleeping in hotels and eating at restaurants? Are they making good nutritious choices at the restaurant as well as when packing for the trip?

Did they speak with their teachers to discuss classwork they will miss? Then manage their time to get the work during throughout the weekend?

Did they achieve their goals for the meet? If not, how do they deal with failing to meet those goals?

All of the above are about applying the discipline they learn every day in practice.

As coaches we believe observing all of the above while guiding the kids through the ups and downs of a swim meet is the ultimate training ground. It is at the swim meet where they can see the value of attending practice and improving. Every day.

Having said all that, Prince Rupert (Oct 18-20) is next month, with registration available online. Deadline is this Saturday October 28.

Cheers.

Prince George Barracuda Swim Club
[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Registration Reminders
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:
News Title: Registration Reminders
News Date: 09/02/2019

Barracuda Families:

Just a quick reminder that registration night is this Thursday September 5th from 5-7 pm.

Please go online to register your child before that time, and then on Thursday come to the pool to pick up your child's team gear and provide volunteers a copy of your paid invoice. All Swim BC fees, registration fees and outstanding balances must be paid before your child gets in the water.

Swimming starts on Friday September 6th, please check the schedule tab for times and dates. The club will be at the Four Seasons Pool the first month, and some group schedules have been altered due to limited lane space. We will resume our normal schedule once we are back at the Aquatic Centre in October.

Swimmers in masters and swim school do not need to attend registration night, more information will be provided before these groups start swimming next month.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and we will see you all on Thursday evening.

Thank you

Kelly

[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Registration Information and Reminders

Prince George Barracuda Swim Club
[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Registration Information and Reminders
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:
News Title: Registration Information and Reminders
News Date: 08/21/2019

Barracuda Families:

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer; it's hard to believe that the new swim season is just around the corner.

I just wanted to give everyone some information on the 2019-2020 registration process.

As in previous years all registrations will be done online, and this must be completed before your child can start swimming. Online registration will open to returning swimmers tomorrow, Thursday August 22nd.  At that time we welcome you to log into your account and register your child for the upcoming swim season. You should have received an email in June with the group your child will be in for the 2019-2020 season. In addition, please take a few minutes to update all your personal information, including credit card numbers, expiry dates, as well as cell phone numbers and email addresses. It is very important that we have accurate contact information address for families.

During the registration process you will be asked to choose if you would like your payments to be charged monthly, semi-annually or annually. Please ensure the correct drop down box is selected, the system will default to annual payments if nothing is chosen, which will create problems on October 1s t when fees are collected.

We will be holding both new and returning member registration on Thursday September 5th at the Four Seasons Pool from 5:00-7:00 pm. At this time we will need you to provide the payment confirmation email/invoice that you received after your child was successfully registered that confirms for me that all Swim BC and Registration fees have been paid, as well as pick up your t-shirt and cap from Kris. All registration fees and any outstanding balances must be paid before your child can start swimming. If you wish to pay your fees with cheques you will need to provide these at registration, along with post-dated cheques for the remaining club fees. The cheque for registration fees will be processed immediately and club fees will start October 1st. Please date the 10 cheques for the first of each month from October to June if you wish to pay monthly, October 1st and January 1st for semi-annual payments and October 1st for annual fees. The fee schedule, along with the 2019-2020 practice calendars will be posted on the website shortly. If you don't pick up your shirt and cap on September 5th, it will be your responsibility to make arrangements with Kris Lewington to get it at a later date. We are trying to streamline the registration process and make it easier for everyone.

Practices start on Friday September 6th at the Four Season's Pool, please check the schedule to see when your group swims. The first session of Swim School will begin on October 7th and Master's program starts on October 7th at the Aquatic Centre.

If anyone would like to help out on registration night, I would love some volunteers, please email me if you would be able to help out for a couple of hours on September 5th

I hope this answers everyone's questions, but if you need anything clarified please feel free to contact me.

I look forward to seeing you all on September 5th.

Thank you

Kelly Esopenko

PGBSC Registrar
