[Prince George Barracuda Swim Club News] - Important News About Telephone Book Fundraiser
Hi Blog PGBSC,

Here is the News information:

News Title:Important News About Telephone Book Fundraiser
News Date:05/30/2015

Response requested – please reply to fundraising@pgbsc.org

As many of you have already noticed, the telephone book delivery fundraiser has not taken place yet this year.  We had hoped to provide an update once all details were known, but as issues have dragged on over a month now, we felt it appropriate to let you know where we stand.  For the information of new members, the Info Pages delivery has been our last big fundraising event of the year.  Families who sign up are assigned specific routes with numbers ranging from 600 to 1100 books each.  Some families commit to more than one route.  In the past, all deliveries were expected to be completed between Victoria Day and mid June.  Any benefits earned are applied to your family account.

The owner of the Info Pages business has sold it to a larger company and we were initially told that everything would proceed as before.  We initiated contact with representatives of the new company, but many things remain unsettled.  The distribution contract for Prince George and area has just been sent out to tender and the company is waiting to award the contract.  We have been told that it is LIKELY that the successful party will utilize the previous delivery partners which included the Barracudas and other groups, but this is not guaranteed.  Furthermore, we do not know what the exact terms may be.  In the past we dealt directly with the owner of the business.  There is now a middleman involved who has competed for the contract and will no doubt expect to make a profit if they engage third parties for delivery.  Nothing is known yet, but we need to be prepared for the possibility that our previous rate of 27 cents per book may no longer be offered.  One item that we do know is that printing will not begin until the third week of June and then the books will be shipped from Oregon to Prince George.  Adding in the logistics of unloading and sub deliveries, we would not expect to have the books available for distribution until the end of June/beginning of July.  We have heard informally from some members that conflict with the beginning of summer vacation makes this a less attractive project.

We expect to have a short window of time to respond if we are offered the opportunity to be involved in the deliveries this year and therefore we need feedback from our members.  For those families who delivered last year, please give us a definite answer as to whether or not you would deliver again this year with this new potential schedule.  Any families who have not previously delivered, but would like to be involved in this fundraising effort please also let us know.  We will not make any commitments until all details are finalized, and will contact families who remain interested for their final decisions at that time.

Sincerely,

Nicholas and Sandra Lamb
